Important Definitions
The factory act, 1948 covers a number of issues concerning the safety, efficiency, health, and the well being of the working employees. There are other important definitions of this act [W]:
Adult- an adult is the one, who has completed his/her eighteen years of age.
Adolescent- an adolescent is a person who is complete fifteen years of age, but hasn’t completed his/her eighteen years.
Child- a child is someone who is still under fifteen years of his age.
The calendar year- beginning from the first day of January in any year and total twelve months period is known as a Calendar year.
Young person- a young person is someone who is either a child or an adolescent.
Factory- It’s a workplace where ten or more workers are working in part of a manufacturing process with or without the aid of power.
Power- Any form of energy mechanically transmitted but not human generated.
Prime Mover- It can be a power generating engine, machine, appliance, etc. which provides power.
Transmission Machinery- this receives the motion of the prime mover by any machinery or appliance i.e. transmission machinery any pulley, shaft, drum, clutch, etc.
Machinery- the machinery includes the prime movers and the transmissions machinery. Also, all the other appliances, where power transmits, generates, transforms.
Hazardous process- It’s any activity or process which requires special care before scheduling the process. Because the material can cause health impairment to the engaged person and also it can pollute the general environment.
