The basic concept of Quality is to encourage the individual operator to be responsible for their work. GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME so that there is no need for an inspector to check all work and identify errors.
The three basic elements are:
- Management: It is the means of implementing and carrying out quality policy. It involves goal planning and managing quality control and assurance activities. It is also responsible for seeing that all goals and objectives are implemented and corrective actions have been achieved. It periodically review the system to ensure effectiveness and to identify any deficiencies.
- Control: The term quality control describes a variety of activities. It encompasses all techniques that continuously monitor & improve the products & processes. It aims to eliminate causes of unsatisfactory performance by identifying and eliminating or narrowing the sources of variation.
The objective is to define a system which meet design requirements and takes corrective actions for process improvement .It emphasizes on testing of products to find defects and put attempts to improve and stabilize production to avoid or at least minimize the reasons which led to the defect(s) in the first place.
- Assurance: It includes all the systematic actions necessary to assure that a product or service satisfies the specified requirements. Usually it is done by an independent final inspection. The distinction between Control and Assurance is stated in an ANSI/ASQ standard: “Quality control has to do with making quality what it should be, and quality assurance has to do with making sure quality is what it should be.” Two principles of Assurance are: “Fit for purpose” (the product should be suitable for the intended purpose); and “right first time” (mistakes should be eliminated).
