Payment Of Bonus Act, 1965, this practice of paying bonus in India found itβs origination during First World War. That time in 1917 there were certain textile mills granting 10% of wages to their workers as war bonus. Although in certain industrial disputes cases the demand for payment of bonus was also included. While, in 1950, for determination of bonus the Full Bench of the Labour Appellate evolved a formula.
In 1959 a plea was made to raise that formula. While in the Eighteenth Session of Standing Labour Committee (G. O.I.) held in New Delhi in March/April 1960 at the second and third meetings of. Thus, the Commission to be appointed was agreed into the question of bonus and evolve suitable norms.
To consider in a comprehensive manner a Tripartite Commission was set up by the Indian Government. To employees employed in an establishment the question of payment arises. Also, to make recommendations to the Government. The Government of India accepted the recommendations of the Commission subject to certain modifications. The Payment of Bonus Ordinance in, 1965 was promulgated. To implement these recommendations. Also, to replace the said Ordinance, in the Parliament the Payment of Bonus Bill was introduced.
