As we already know that collection of valuable data can build an organization or lack of valuable data might collapse an organization. There are two possible ways to collect data, one is Reports and another one is Dashboards. Reports are the summarized data based on specific search. They are traditional way to look into the organizational activities and make decisions based on that. Reports might include some graphical components like bar graph, pie charts, histogram etc.

On the other hand dashboards are more interactive. The representation of data is completely in graphical format. Since they are more graphical oriented, anyone can easily understand them, even without proper knowledge of that process. Also dashboard helps online users to participate in the process and create their own report as per their requirement.

Since dashboards are not summarized reports, they can provide one with vital information from the given data set. Dashboard information is very helpful in case of providing quick answer to one’s query. The data guru says that technology is not a problem (primarily), but the poor visual data which displays insufficient information. So to overcome that, dashboard must display an array of information in a small space in a manner that it conveys what is it supposed to and must immediately convey that. So the main objective of dashboard is to deliver timely information from a list of information which user demands.
