Lesson Planning and Instructional Objectives

Lesson Planning and Instructional Objectives

Instructional objectives also called learning objectives are statements which define learning results. One of the principles for a well-written objective is that it must define the results of learning. The instructional objectives are divided into three categories: cognitive objectives, affective objective, and psycho motor objectives. You have to remember that cognitive objectives concentrate on mind; affective objectives concentrate on emotions; and psycho motor objectives concentrate on body.

Here are descriptions of all these categories of instructional objectives:

Cognitive objectives

These objectives call for outcomes of psychological activities like- learning, understanding, problem solving, evaluating, and making inferences. They are further categorized into various levels from the modest cognitive tasks to the most difficult cognitive tasks. These categories help when you are trying to order ideas so they are successively suitable.

Affective objectives

Affective objectives mainly focus on emotions. Every time an individual pursues to learn to respond in a suitable way, there are some thoughts going on. The main difference between affective objectives and cognitive objectives is that the aim of affective objectives is a kind of affective behavior or the product of an emotional impact. While on the other hand the aim of cognitive objectives is some kind of cognitive reaction or the product of a cognitive reaction.

Psycho motor objectives

This kind of objective focuses on the control or handling of the well-developed skeletal method or some part of it. All skills that need satisfactory or gross motor synchronization fall into this category. You require some cognition to adapt a motors’ skills and knowledge. However, the eventual aim is not the cognitive characteristics of the skill like- learning the steps to take. The ultimate aim is the control of muscles and muscle groups.
