Learning Styles Continuum

An individual prefers some learning styles that are based on the social impact, and educational background. Regardless of the learning preferences, it is the product of two contradictory variables that are processing continuum.

Processing Continuum is the way of approaching and handling the tasks. It is the variety of what is the emotional answer to the task, together with the thoughts and feelings.

The learning styles are emphasized on the following backgrounds:

Accommodating: This style of the learning process is a hands-on method. It is suitable for people who are instinctive despite of the people with logical senses. Such people completely depend upon others to analyze and to think.

 

Diverging: This style is for creative and sensitive people. These people view a situation from various viewpoints and produce new ideas. These people are more individuals oriented and deep philosophers.

Converging: Technical minded individuals prefer this kind of learning. They accept new ideas and rely on their learning and thinking skills to find a solution for all kinds of practical situations.

Assimilating: This thinking style is ideal for people who find logical theories and strong explanations more interesting. They value succinctness and judgments.

When you know the learning style it becomes easy to apply the correct method. However, as stated before everyone has their own learning preferences, and needs to stimulate all of the four learning styles. The main idea is to find the method that fits best according to the preference of each student. Teachers should apply this theory to develop adequate teaching materials and to involve the students methodically to go through each stage.
