Learning is the process by which skills, knowledge and attitude are gained and consumed in a way that it enhances the behavior. The learning principles in training give an additional vision of what makes people learn more effectively.
Following are learning principles that a good training program should adopt:
Practice – Employees learn faster when theory and practice together. Employees having training should get a chance to participate in the actual work performance.
Active Process – If a training process utilizes all the senses of the efforts made by trainees, they tend to learn better. This makes him more involved in the learning process.
Guidance – An expert should provide the training to the employees for correct guidance. This guidance can fasten the learning process and can also provide a feedback.
Motivation – Motivation is necessary for the trainees, so that they can improve their skills and knowledge with more compensation, promotion and acknowledgment.
Trainee Readiness – An effective training program should include trainees who are willing to learn and acquire more skills. Hence, it is very essential to determine the readiness of a trainee.
Relevance – Most trainees develop perception about whether the training is significant or not. However, if trainees observe that the training will actually help them in their work, their interest will get increase towards the training automatically.
Reinforcement – It comprises of the process to provide financial and non-financial rewards like- appreciation or recognition. Reinforcement can encourage trainees to get more involved in the training.
Standard of performance – Standard of performance should be set for the learners. This will give goals and a feeling of achievement when the employees will accomplish them.
Feedback – To determine the capabilities and limits of improvement in employees, regular checks on the growth of their training are necessary. This feedback will be valuable in modifying the training according to the needs of an individual employee.
