Axioms of Teaching
Axiom is a statement that is taken to be true, to work as a principle or starting point for more reasoning and influences. The term has refined modifications in definition when used in the perspective of different types of study. For example- as defined in common philosophy, an axiom is an evident and well-established statement that is accepted without any disagreements or questions. As used in modern logic, an axiom is a principle or initial point for reasoning.
Here are some of the axioms of teaching and training that are effective in improving the skills and knowledge of the trainees or students.
1) Spend some time in the field functioning with the people who are performing the same tasks and functions. This will help you to find their reality that could be somewhat different from the reality that management had presumed.
2) Always try to be up front and vulnerable to the participants. Communicate with them making them feel like an intelligent adult
3) Explain current situations to the participants and how they can handle them effectively on their own.
4) Tell them the goals and expectations so that they can work and improve accordingly.
5) Explain the available equipment and resources.
6) Give several examples of how each resource and tool is used correctly.
7) Make them illustrate the mastery of each tool and procedure. For this, you can use written tests and live demonstrations.
8) Never criticize or insult any participant. Work with them to improve their efficiency and to get the results you want.
9) Always be punctual in starting and ending all the activities. Never accept anything uncompleted.
10) People learn in different ways, hence, it is compulsory to provide the training materials in a variety of formats.
