Functional and Non-functional Testing

Let us begin with functional and non-functional software testing.

Functional testing

It refers to activities that verify a specific action or function of the code. Certainly, these are usually found in the code requirements documentation. Although some development methodologies work from use cases or user stories. Moreover, this type of testing tends to answer the question of “can the user do this” or “does this particular feature work”.

To clarify, each function of the software application works in conformance in this type of testing. Further, this includes specific requirement and specifications. However, this type of testing is not concerned about the source code of the application. Moreover, each function in the software application is tested by appropriate test input.

Non-functional testing

It refers to aspects of the software that may not be related to a specific function or user action, such as scalability or security. Moreover, this testing tends to answer such questions as “how many people can log in at once”.

To clarify, this type of software testing checks non-functional aspects of any software application. Further, this is designed to test the readiness of any system.

However, both these testing is equally important.
