Carpets/rugs – Acarpet is a textile floor covering consisting of an upper layer of “pile” attached to a backing. The pile is generally either made from wool or a man made fibre such as polypropylene, nylon or polyester and usually consists of twisted tufts which are often heat-treated to maintain their structure.
Mats – A matis a generic term for a piece of fabric or flat material, generally placed on a floor or other flat surface, which serves a range of purposes including
- protecting that which is beneath the mat, such as a place mator the matting used in archival framing and preservation of documents and paintings.
- protecting that which is above the mat, such as a wrestlingor gymnastics mat, or an anti-vibration mat.
- changing the state of that which passes above it, such as a doormatattracting dirt from shoes.
