Details Panel I – Details Panel Interface

The Details Panel in Unreal Engine is where you fine-tune and customize objects in your project. It shows all the properties of the selected object, like size, color, material, and behavior. Let’s break down how the Details Panel works in simple terms:

What is the Details Panel?

  • This Panel is located on the right side of the Unreal Engine editor (by default).
  • It appears when you select an object in your scene or Content Browser.
  • It shows all the settings for the selected object.

Key Parts of the Details Panel

  1. Header Section
    • At the top of the panel, you’ll see the name and type of the selected object.
    • For example: “Static Mesh – Chair” or “Light – Point Light.”
  2. Transform Settings
    • This is the first section and controls the object’s position, rotation, and scale:
      • Location: Move the object in the level.
      • Rotation: Turn the object around.
      • Scale: Make the object bigger or smaller.
  3. Property Categories
    • The panel is divided into collapsible categories based on the object type:
      • Rendering: Adjust visibility and materials.
      • Physics: Set how the object reacts to gravity or collisions.
      • Lighting: Control how lights behave and affect the object.
  4. Search Bar
    • At the top of the panel, there’s a search bar.
    • Use it to quickly find a specific property without scrolling.
  5. Custom Properties
    • Some objects have unique settings, like animation options for a character or sound settings for an audio file.
    • These appear as extra sections in the Details Panel.

How to Use

  1. Select an Object
    • Click on any object in your level to open its details.
  2. Edit Properties
    • Change settings like color, material, or size directly in the panel.
  3. Save Changes
    • Most changes are applied automatically, but always save your project after making adjustments.

Why is this Panel Important?

  • It gives you full control over every aspect of an object.
  • You can customize how things look, feel, and behave in your game.
  • It’s where most of your fine-tuning happens during game development.

By understanding, you can make your game objects look and behave exactly how you want them to!
