Data Processing Concepts
Data processing is the process of converting raw data into usable information by performing a series of operations on it. In the context of data entry or computer basics, some key data processing concepts may include:
Data Input: This is the process of entering data into a computer system. It can be done manually through data entry forms, or automatically through sensors, scanners, or other devices.
Data Storage: This involves storing data in a computer system, such as in a database, spreadsheet, or file. It’s important to ensure data is stored securely and is easily accessible when needed.
Data Manipulation: This involves performing operations on data to transform it into a more useful form, such as sorting, filtering, and aggregating. This can be done using software applications such as spreadsheets or databases.
Data Analysis: This involves using statistical or other analytical tools to derive insights from data. Data analysis can help identify patterns, trends, and relationships that can inform decision-making.
Data Output: This involves presenting data in a meaningful way, such as through reports, charts, or graphs. Data output should be clear, concise, and easy to understand.
Data processing means processing or manipulation of data as required by the user. Data processing can be done manually, but as we noted earlier the various characteristics of computer like speed, storage, etc. makes it more suitable, as computer can do processing very quickly and with less resource. Data is processed in various cycle in a computer, which are
Input Cycle
In this phase of data processing data is prepared in a suitable format and on a medium most suitable for entry into a processing machine. For e.g. attendance records of employees are conveniently represented in a table and the data recording can be done on a magnetic tape or disk.
Processing Cycle
In this phase of data processing the inputted data is processed as per the user’s instructions. Processing can be sorting i.e. arranging data in an ascending or descending order on a given basis.
Output Cycle
This is the last phase of data processing. In it the processed data is given to the user in the inputted data is processed as per the user’s instructions. Processing can be sorting i.e. arranging data in an ascending or descending order on a given basis.
