There are basically two types of software

1. System Software: System software (or systems software) is computer software designed to operate and control the computer hardware and to provide a platform for running application software.

2. Application Software: Application software is all the computer software that causes a computer to perform useful tasks (compare with computer viruses) beyond the running of the computer itself. A specific instance of such software is called a software application
