Check Sheets consist of list of items. It is basically an indicator of how often each item occurs on the list. A check sheet is also known as a tally sheet which has the following usages:

  • Firstly, it helps in process improvement and problem-solving. Moreover, it can highlights items of importance during data collection.
  • Secondly, it is an effective tool for quality improvement when applied with histograms and Pareto analysis. It’s a data collection form that allows subject matter experts to assist in capturing data about processes.
  • Lastly, check sheets helps in capturing data quickly and easily taking everybody’s help in the process. It is an effective technique for getting a simple analysis quickly about faults in processes and assisting in gather the data.

Types of Check Sheets

  • Location or concentration diagram – In this, the marking takes place on a diagram. For example, before submitting a car to the service center, a car diagram helps to list defects at present by marking and writing on the diagram.
  • Basic check sheet – It lists the different defects and the number of times each defect occurs. For example, these sheets are generally given to employees on the floor when a manufacturing operation is taking place. An operator records each time there is a problem by striking off the relevant checkbox.
  • Traveler check sheets – These sheets are a powerful method when going through the system step in the process to capture the defects.
  • Location check sheet – It includes drawing an image and identifying the problem in the process. This is a powerful tool that focuses on effort.
  • Confirmation check sheet – This is one of the simplest methods to understand what steps should be done properly in the sequence. This verifies the process is setup accurately the first time.
  • Graphical or Distribution check sheet – TThis check sheet is commonly used to collect frequency by marking to visualize the distribution of the data.
