Performance Motivation
Performance Motivation is the combination of a person’s desire and energy directed at achieving a goal. It is the cause of action. Influencing people’s motivation means getting then to want to do what you know must be done (Military Leadership, 1993).
Motivation is the combination of a person’s desire and energy directed at achieving a goal. It is the cause of action. Motivation can be intrinsic, such as satisfaction and feelings of achievement; or extrinsic, such as rewards, punishment, and goal obtainment. Not all people are motivated by the same thing and over time their motivations might changes.
Reward is a tool of performance motivation. It is a medium of recognizing or acknowledging employees both individually and as members of a group for their commendable performance and contribution to the agency’s mission. Effective management aims at controlling all behavior by its consequences. Those consequences are formal and informal and both positive and negative. This is how effective management commends over the employees.
Reorganization is an ongoing process. It is a natural part of day to day experience. A simple “Thank you” motivates an employee a lot. A good performance should be recognized without waiting for any nomination or recommendation. The informal recognition is an instant motivation to the employees. Well done, excellent work etc is the words that motivate the employees. However, awards regulations provide a wide range of forms that formal rewards can take. The best examples of these are cash, time off, and some other monetary benefits.
