Create, open and save files

To create, open, and save files in Adobe Photoshop, you can follow these steps:

Creating a New File:

1. Launch Adobe Photoshop.
2. Click on “File” in the menu bar at the top.
3. Select “New” from the drop-down menu or use the shortcut Ctrl+N (Command+N on Mac).
4. In the New dialog box that appears, specify the settings for your new file, including:
   • Preset: Choose a preset size or select “Custom” to define your own dimensions.
   • Width and Height: Enter the desired dimensions for your new file.
   • Resolution: Set the resolution for your file (usually in pixels per inch – PPI or dots per inch – DPI).
   • Color Mode: Choose the appropriate color mode for your project, such as RGB or CMYK.
   • Background Contents: Select the initial background color or transparency for your file.
5. Once you’ve set the desired options, click “OK” to create the new file.

Opening an Existing File:

1. Click on “File” in the menu bar.
2. Select “Open” from the drop-down menu or use the shortcut Ctrl+O (Command+O on Mac).
3. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the location where your file is saved.
4. Select the file you want to open and click “Open.”

Saving a File:

1. Click on “File” in the menu bar.
2. Select “Save” or “Save As” from the drop-down menu or use the shortcut Ctrl+S (Command+S on Mac).
   • If you choose “Save,” the file will be saved with its existing filename and location.
   • If you choose “Save As,” a dialog box will appear where you can specify the filename, location, and file format for saving.
3. In the Save dialog box, specify the desired filename and location for your file.
4. Choose the appropriate file format for your needs, such as PSD, JPEG, PNG, or TIFF.
5. Click “Save” to save the file with the specified settings.

It’s important to note that Photoshop supports various file formats, and the available options may differ depending on the version of Photoshop you are using. Additionally, if you’re working with layered files and want to preserve the layers, it is recommended to save your work in the native PSD format to retain all the editing capabilities.
