Autosharding and shard keys

MongoDB’s sharding dismantles collections into smaller chunks which are distributed across shards hence, each shard is responsible for a subset of the total data set. MongoDB supports autosharding, which not only hides the architecture from the application and simplify the administration. It automates balancing data across shards.
