Install Upgrade or Remove Optical Drive

Optical drive removal

• Review the safety considerations before performing the steps listed below by clicking on the following link:
• Remove the battery. Click here for instructions on how to remove the battery .
• Remove the switch cover. Click here for instructions on how to remove the switch cover .
• Remove the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the keyboard to the top cover.
• Remove the 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the keyboard to the top cover.
• Slide the keyboard toward the rear of the notebook until the tabs on the front of the keyboard are free from their respective slots on the top cover.
• Slide the keyboard toward the left side of the notebook to expose the optical drive.
• Remove the silver 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the optical drive to the base enclosure.
• Using a flat bladed tool, push the tab on the rear of the optical drive to partially remove it.
• Remove the optical drive from the base enclosure.

Optical drive replacement

• Insert the optical drive into the optical drive bay until the tray door bezel is flush with the side of the base enclosure.
• Replace the silver 5 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the optical drive to the base enclosure.
• Slide the keyboard toward the center of the notebook and align the tabs on the front of the keyboard with the slots on the top cover.
• While pressing down on the front and rear edges, slide the keyboard forward until it is securely seated under the lip of the palm rest.
• Replace the 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screw that secures the keyboard to the top cover.
• Replace the three 3 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the keyboard to the top cover.
