Work life balance : it is a concept that supports the efforts of workforce to divide their time and energy between the work and other essential aspects of their life .
For an individual , the work life balance is a daily efforts to make time for family , friends , community participation , spirituality , personal growth , self care and other personal activities in addition to the demands of the workplace . the current newer generation of workers expects more . They do not live to work – they work to live .they do not see the point in getting higher salaries when they are never home to enjoy their salary . This is time when people always suppose to spend quality time with their children , parents , wife etc. it is really must to have happy life .
A bad work life balances leaves many employees feeling overworked and burnt out , which leads to high absenteeism and reduces retention rates . By supporting better work life balance , a corporate can expect more loyal employees with fewer intentions of living . higher satisfaction with both , the job and life leaves the employees feeling more motivated and becoming more efficient. To create satisfaction among employees its important to set workplace trends for achieving work life balance .
WORKPLACE TRENDS :
- Working Hours : providing more flexible and consultative restoring arrangements and working hours to all employees , including shift workers .
- Part time work – providing more pat time jobs with less hours or fewer shifts , or jobs sharing arrangements to every employee .
- Reasonable working hours – reducing excessively long working hours and double shifts .
- Leaves :
- flexible leave arrangements – providing greater flexibility in leave arrangements to suits employees` personal circumstances , including leave for school holidays through purchased leave arrangements and extended leave without pay to provide full time care to family members .
- Leave in single days – allowing employees to request and take leave single days and accrued hours as time off in lieu of payment
- Caring for family members : by providing in house childcare facilities , before and after school care , vacation care facilities and help employees to find a suitable place for their children . this service could be extended to assist the employees to find suitable eldercare residential etc.
- Provide time saving facilities and services : For employees in workplace such as Dry cleaning pick up and drop off , access to ready made healthy take away meals at end of work , On site ATMs , banks and post boxes .
- Safety and well being : improving or enhancing safety , well being and respect for all the employees in workplace .
- Job mobility : providing increased mobility for employees to transfer between wards , work areas , hospital and health services to find more suitable working adjustment that will assist them to better balance their current work and personal duties .
Moreover , the companies should make continuous efforts to make balance between the professional and family life. To get higher satisfaction among the employees.
