The AAP’s full-fledged budget in the Delhi Assembly has been finally presented which is claimed by the AAP government to be the country’s first Swaraj Budget based on people’s inputs. The Rs 41,129 crore budget has a major share in the social sectors – health and education.
In context to the education sector, the allocation of the budget has seen a hike by about 106% to Rs 9,836 crore. In Manish Sisodia’s(Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister) own words, this increase indicates a commitment to the cause of education which according to them is not an expenditure but an investment.
This highly applauded budget seeks to utilize its allocation of education sector towards the construction of 236 schools besides the expansion in vocational education and skill development. Apart from this, the process of installation of CCTVs in all classrooms is also proposed in order to bring about transparency and accountability. In the higher education sector, the government has proposed diploma and degree-level skill development and vocational courses along with certificate courses. Various ITIs are also in process of being established at various corners of Delhi.
Finally, we get to see coordination between the Modi and Kejriwal government. Modi has seen a vision to inculcate quality education and develop skills among the youth through the “Skill India” initiative and this budget is the execution of the vision which is commendable on the part of both the governments.
If these plans in papers become a reality, then India would be able to produce skilled youth, ready to face the employment markets. It would also help significantly in the growth of the organization, attracting more firms to set up projects in India in the presence of skilled and efficient workforce. With Digital week coming up, this budget has a long way to mark the success of another initiative at the centre-“Digital India”.
