” One year out of ten is spent watching T.V.”
“On an average Delhi children watch 17 hours of TV every week”
In the last two decades television has become the most powerful means of entertainment . With the introduction of many satellite channels, its reach has increased manyfold . I am sure you will agree with me that T.V has become an indispensable gadget in our homes. Nobody has remained unaffected by its influence, From soap operas to cartoons , movies, music, there is no lack of viewership
T.V is being used by business houses to woo customers. Many ads target children below 8 years as they are easily influenced by the audio -visual effects, particularly of advertisements.
Isn’t it astonishing that out of every ten years of our life we spend one whole year watching TV alone , thus saying goodbye to important work , social , and family interaction and physical activity? Moreover , let us ask ourselves how many of us watch programmes which are educational and have cultural significance? not many , i am afraid our reading habit is the first victim of too much TV watching.
It is high time that we realize the adverse effects of watching TV for long hours . We should be selective about the programmes and the time that we are going to spend with our Idiot box. We should spend time on outdoor activities too , otherwise one day all of us will become remote wielding , think alike couch – potatoes

The facts amaze me everytime I read it!
a surprising fact that i read about televisions was when they were invented it was predicted that they wont be successful as an average family wont have time for that
There is a reason why we call idiot box to the TV. It is not because of the fault of TV but a fault in the viewers who just watch useless programme on it.
Nice.

Very well presented !!
A very well written article. Today along with TV, teenagers are also addicted to facebook and watsapp and it is really a serious topic to think upon
Television is actually a cause of concern today. Children as young as eight years of age have eye defects and suffer from obesity. With the coming of more and more television channels, the situation is getting worse. There used to be a time when there was just one channel “Doordarshan”. Television was an important source of entertainment then, but today it is slowly converting into our addictions. Nice work!
good one. really TV is an idiot box which effects us the most.
