After determining the number and kind of personnel required, the human resource manager follows with the indentification of sources of recruitment to find the suitable candidates for Employment. Both ‘Internal’ and ‘External’ sources are used for recruitment.
Internal sources of recruitment simply goes by its name i.e. recruiting the candidates internally or from within the organisation. Whereas in case of External sources, the human resource department communicates the vacant job positions through notice boards, Advertisement, Employment exchange, Websites, etc.

What are the sources available to an organisation to recruit a suitable candidate ?

In Internal sources, the recruitment is done through ‘Transfer’, ‘Promotion’ and ‘Re-employment of ex-employees’ but when the organisation is unable to find the suitable candidate, they simply goes for External sources which includes-
* Direct recruitment
* Advertising
* Employment exchange
* Placement agencies and management consultants
* Campus recruitment
* Web publishing, and many more.

Recruiting through internal sources is beneficial to the organisation like they have to bear a less cost, the employee would be known to the organisation and so can handle his job easily, cost of training for senior posts will be less but they have many demerits too.
In case of internal sources, better qualified human resource is not able to reach to the management. The mobility of man power restricts as once a man joins the organisation, he will stick to that organisation. Employee turnover to a certain extent is good for the organisation but it hinders the fresh talent.
Whereas, if we talk about the external sources, although they are costly by nature and may constitute a long, lengthy process of selection but it invites the fresh talent which is very much needed by an organisation and also the recruiting department gets a wider choice to recruit from and so can pick the qualified personnel through the long selection process. So, External sources of recruitment is advantageous over Internal sources of recruitment !
