Nptel is one of the most visited and searched sites among engineering students in India. NPTEL, The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning, website provides e-learning through online Web and Video courses like Engineering and Technology, Sciences, Management and Humanities. This site also provides GATE preparation materials like question papers and mock tests for GATE aspirants involving Practice tests (without solution) that mimic the actual online exam pattern of GATE, as designed contents enhance and complement students’ residential learning experience at their institutions

NPTEL is a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), founded by seven IITs and IISc Bangalore. NPTEL contains curriculum building exercise, providing learning materials in science and engineering on syllabus proposed by All India Council for Technical Education, (AICTE) and modified curriculum with other major affiliating Universities. Site consists of curriculum based video courses and web-based e-courses targeting students and faculty of institutions offering UG engineering programs in India. videos are also available on you-tube.Contents of NPTEL are being used by various educational institutions as part of their teaching-learning process and as references. faculty members are using these contents as part of their lesson plan to teach university curriculum. study material can be used by students to prepare for technical jobs and competitive exams, also as a platform for constant learning and updating knowledge for the ever-changing environment and market realities.

In the year 1999 IISc Bangalore proposed the idea of  having a Technology enhanced learning initiative, later on involves IITs and Indian Institutes of Management (IIM). The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India approved funding of 20.47 crores Indian Rupees for Phase I for three years from June 2003 till June 2006, extended till June 30, 2007. On March 2014, around  750 video courses and web-based courses have been developed by the faculty members of these institutions.
