Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed for variety of internal security duties in the country. Thus, they desist a new way of undertaking “Rambo” style in the operations in the Naxal – affected areas even as the standard operating procedures in that regret are being rejigged with an aim of countering the anti-development propaganda of Maoists. Indian intelligence agencies claimed that these protests and demonstrations were part of covert operations of various communities.
The detentions came as fresh clashes were reported between police and protesters in Srinagar. However, Clashes had rocked the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday as well following the arrest of separatist leader Masarat Alam. Therefore protests turned violent when CRPF personnel used batons to chase away the protesters. Therefore, the youth started pelting stones after which CRPF personnel allegedly opened firing, resulting unfortunate death of ordinary people. But, keeping in view that their duty to protect people from naxal’s is their main concern and establish peace.
Reports said that the CRPF personnel initially used tear gas to disperse the protesters in Narbal, thus the crowd turned violent and started pelting stones, they resorted to firing. Three youth who were injured in the firing were rushed to a hospital here, where one of them, identified as Suhail Ahmad Sofi, succumbed to injuries.
The J&K Police, meanwhile, said that a preliminary inquiry into the incident indicated that the forces allegedly acted in violation of the laid down Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). A spokesman said a case under various sections of the RPC, including 302 (murder), has been registered in Police Station Magam. The state government has also ordered a magisterial probe into the killing of the youth in Narbal.
CRPF conveyed that the house arrest of the separatist (pro-freedom) leaders was a preventive measures for maintaining law and order extended sympathies to the bereaved family. In view of the strike calls, shops, business establishments, educational institutions and petrol pumps were in and around Lal Chowk city center but most of them were open in the civil lines areas of the city as well as in other major towns of the basin, the official said.
