Orientation seems to have gone beyond its originally intended meaning of position, angle and placement and might have earned itself a synonym such as coordination. The HR department seems to be the most influenced and fascinated by this as we can see “Orientation Days” popping up after most major recruits.
The history behind its origin might be a little blurry but the reasoning is pretty clear. It helps the new recruits to know the people they’re eventually going to work with and in a fashion that might break the ice and familiarize them to the office environment. It’s majorly a semi-formal event or in some high-end jobs, even a party, which focuses on building networks with new entrants into the business and expanding their clientele.
Profitable for both the recruits as well as the firm, it’s a win-win situation in professional world. But it’s not all fun and games as it also means introducing the freshers to their jobs, duties and responsibilities along with work and company’s ethics. The company’s brand name is stressed upon and employees are made to understand what the company believes in and what they should work towards in order to strive and progress in the firm.
At the end of the day, it’s a great opportunity for the new comers to understand the world they are about to enter.
