“You can only connect the dots looking backward”
Jobs, one of the greatest minds of this generation left behind a legacy which is till date unparalleled. His inventions revolutionized the world of technology. Apple, under Jobs leadership surpassed itself with every new edition it introduced to the market. Be it the iPod which in time grew into the iPad to apple’s series of laptops and computers, The Mac.
However, was this man always successful? Did he always have things served to him on a silver platter? The story of his journey to the top is one which will leave most in surprise mixed with a strong sense of motivation.
Jobs used up all his parents savings to go to a college as expensive as Stanford. However a couple of months later he decided to drop out for his course wasn’t interesting enough for him. He then lingered around for another year and a half. Sleeping on the floor of his friends dorm rooms and walking a 7mile long stretch every sunday night to get a good meal at the Hare Krishna Temple. He then decided to attend the calligraphy course at his college, which resulted in the beautiful type fonts Mac has to offer today.
What most people are also unaware of is that Steve was fired from Apple in 1985. Yes, fired from Apple! How can one get fired from their own company? Well Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs had hired a team of directors to handle the affairs of the company. Over time, one of their decisions included firing jobs, which at the time seemed like the best thing to do.
This obviously left Jobs shattered. For months he questioned himself and his purpose in life for he had lost the one thing which was the most precious to him. Fortunately over time he realized that even though he got fired from Apple, the world had not taken the one thing he loved to do. So he decided to start over. In the next 5 years, he started two companies- NeXT and Pixar, which in a surprising turn of events were bought by Apple. Jobs returned to Apple and continued to carry on his genius work.
A couple of years later Jobs got diagnosed with a rare form of pancreatic cancer. He was able defeat it the first time before finally succumbing to it in 2011.
What we learn from this great man is that life will let you down on several occasions. But it is up to you how to learn from it, and rise to your capabilities. So don’t let a few obstacles stop your journey to greatness. You are capable of so much more and it’s your time to prove it now.
