It won’t be a hyperbole if we say internet is the oxygen of today’s generation. Parents and children alike are seen whiling away their time on their Smartphones. However while we are busy checking the updates of our virtual friends, we miss out on the real ones that surround us. Why is it that we have fun anymore? To put up a cool enough snap story or instagram photo? Or to come up with a good enough facebook display picture?
Spending our hours tirelessly on the internet can often have disastrous consequences. Teenagers specially, at this point in their lives need to get their act together. Whatever task they indulge in determines their future. So often they unconsciously spend so much time on their devices that they don’t realize that afternoon has turned into evening and evening to night. With that they waste precious studying hours, if not studying then valuable time they could have used to achieve other self growth goals. Self growth goals can be anything, ranging from hitting the gym, pursuing a new hobby, reading more or even taking up new internships. The world is your oyster and its time each one of us realizes that.
Gary Turk in his world famous video ‘Look up’ describes how the internet is slowing breaking us apart, each piece residing on one of the gazillion websites that exist. So I say it’s within us to bring about the much needed change.
So break the internet and soak in the reality that surrounds you. Don’t give in to the need to follow the hype. Let the sweet breeze consume you and expose you to the beauty of life. The chuckle of your daughter and the morning sunshine, all that follow, will find themselves a happy life!
