SUPER HEROES, THOU ART NOT NEEDED!

Sooner or later we all are doomed to reside together in heaven or hell; based on the noble or evil deeds we have done in the course of our lives (as the popular theory states).

“Earth will cease to be habitable somewhere between 1.75 and 3.25 billion years from now. Human race will die before Earth ends”, genius scientists have already warned the mankind.

How many times in your life have you been emotionally blackmailed by sentimental posts describing how Mother Earth will melt like an ice cream and cease to existence after a few billion years. It doesn’t really sound very scary, when you know that

  1. Doomsday will come after billion more years and you have a lifespan of say, 90 years!
  2. Everyone has to eventually die!

BUT laws of nature are cruel. Everything we do comes back and hits us hard in our faces (heard about KARMA?)

 

Here’s a little to make us feel proud on our researchers who are working hard  to effectively balance present generation needs and not hurting the nature at the same time.

Recently researchers from University of Houston devised a new formula for calculating the maximum efficiency of thermoelectric materials; a path breaking discovery to generate energy efficient devices.

Thermoelectric materials produce electricity by exploiting the flow of heat current from a warmer area to a cooler area. In thermoelectric materials, efficiency is calculated as the measure of how well it converts heat into power. For example, a material that takes in 100 watts of electricity and produces 10 watts of electricity has an efficiency rate of 10%.Top efficiency for current thermoelectric materials is about 12%.

How is the new formula good?

It’s effective in a way that it predicts whether a material (like MgAgSb compound, bismuth telluride etc.) is worth enough to be used for making energy-driven devices, calculating efficiency by considering the temperature dependent individual properties for devices operating under a large temperature difference. Also, the previously existing formula to calculate efficiency was based on certain assumptions which made the formula unreliable because it gave rise to an impractically high efficiency prediction.

Advancements like this are crucial to spur clean energy generations.

BIO FUELS AND ELECTRO FUELS : The most innovative start-ups in this area are creating high-margin speciality chemicals and blend stocks providing a pathway to clean energy fuels.

DIGITAL POWER CONVERSION : High-speed, very reliable digital switches made of silicon carbide and gallium nitride have been developed for high-frequency power management. They use 90 percent less energy, take up only about 1 percent as much space, and are more reliable and flexible than existing transformers.

NANOELECTRONICS : Progress in the comparatively new area of nanoelectronics in particular could be the basis for new manufacturing processes and devices to make renewable energy systems and technologies more efficient and cost-effective.

Now, instead of relying on intelligent minds to keep up the good work going,we also,as responsible citizens of the nation, have a duty of making sustainable transportation choices,not wasting water and electricity, becoming aware of our individual carbon foot-prints.

Who needs a super hero when we have immensely talented scientists,researchers and responsible adults who work hard to keep the world prospering?
