As the semester comes to a close. I reach out to grab my books.
I have been reflecting a lot on my time at DU and what I have experienced over the course of year. With the semester coming to a end,(looking towards 2016). I am reminded of myself nearly year ago, confirming my attendance at 8:30 in the morning in Room no- 18.
How every word out of everyone around me seemed to have amplified, it was as if I were in slow motion and everyone one around me just staring.
Half way through, I can say I was both right and wrong in so many ways. My friends who first seemed to seem peculiar are now buddies and have exposed me to many brilliant ideas.
I’ve learned so much from the diverse experiences and ambitions of my classmates.
The thrill of extracurricular activities has been enormously rewarding. Yet, in some ways, my most rewarding take away at college, as well as those of many others, have been the personal maturity and lessons that aren’t mentioned in any college websites or brochures.
When I look to myself and compare to a year ago me, I see a lot of difference. I have not only grown as a student but also as a person.
I have learnt to value time, appreciate my family, I learned to deal with rejection and learned the value of failure and persistence.
I mention all of this not as a note in a personal diary, but of how much you have to look forward to in your time at college, and hopefully at DU.
The glossy brochures and websites of every college can tell you tell you so much . But what they can’t speak to is the amount of pure life experiences you’ll get from independently exploring almost every facet of yourself, probably for the first time. I won’t lie – I’ve experienced some of the happiest moments at college, but also some of the biggest frustrations and tears. But through it all, the new found perspectives I’ve gained have been so worth the ups and downs of these growing pains.
So When You Chose Your College Look Beyond The Brochure And You’ll Know Where You Belong.
