First cut-off list at DU shoots sky high

For admissions to the undergraduate programme , Delhi University released its first list of cut-offs with a staggering 99 per cent for B.Tech programme. The first cut-off list which was released late Wednesday, saw an unusually high minimum score even in not-so-renowned colleges.

Only those scoring above 99.75 per cent could hope to get seats in Bhaskaracharya College of Applied Science with almost 46 seats, according to the first cut-off list. Due to the cancellation of the entrance examination for journalism, the cut-off at Lady Shri Ram College for Women (LSR) – South Campus was 98.50 per cent where Delhi College of Arts and Commerce announced the first cut-off of 97.4 per cent for its journalism course.

B.Tech and Journalism were not the only programmes encountering such astounding cut-off percentages. The cut-off for Economics was announced as 97.5 per cent in both Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) and Hindu College. The highest cut-off percentage for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics is 96.5 per cent, at Hindu College. Where the cut-off for the science courses in all colleges of Delhi University is set at an average of 95 per cent. Nearly-100 per cent scores has been asked for students seeking to study subjects like English literature. Only those scoring above 97.5 per cent would be considered for admission to the English course at the Lady Shri Ram College for Women.

The second cut-off list is expected to be released on Saturday. 

With the introduction of the four-year undergraduate programme by  Delhi University this academic session, students will be required to study 11 foundation courses in the first two years, and those seeking vocational education will take the courses along with those seeking to pursue academic disciplines.
