Right to information (RTI) Act, came into force on 12 oct.2005 when there was constantly demand from the people of India to know the system and processes adopted by the various public authorities under the Local, State and Central Government in performing their tasks and decisions regarding their duties and responsibilities towards the people of India.
The act gives powers in the hands of the people and it is creating transparency among the public authorities work. Information received under this act the report card of public authorities and from this report card the general people may analyze their performance. But this require to come forward and get the required information from the concerned department.
A citizen of India can apply for information, make appeal and put complain under this act. This act is application to whole India except the state Jammu & Kashmir. One has to apply to the Public Information Officers (PIO ) Or Central APIO of the public authority with Rs.10 as a fees ( it differs from state to state) but no fees to BPL. There is no particular application form but some authorities have given on their website.
If you really interest in knowing the progress of developments and various schemes provided to the needy person,and how public authorities are using public funds, apply through RTI act and get satisfaction or provide feedback to the public authorities. This act is favourable for both the people and authorities. The public authorities now realized that people are keeping eyes on their activities.
