1. Get to know team members personally
Spend some time getting acquainted with team members and their jobs. Find out what their likes and dislikes are –both at and away form work. If you show interest, people will feel valued.
2. Stay in touch
Talk to team members often, to keep track of work progress, problems at work or at home, important events, etc. Ask for any ideas, thoughts or opinions possible, give team members a say in what they do.
3. Find out what motivates each tem members
You may fine that a team members craves recognition, more freedom or responsibility, additional training or some other motivating factor, Tailor your plans accordingly. For example, someone who enjoys working with others could be offered a chance to participate in a group project or more contact with customers or others in your organisation.
4. Treat team members with respect
Being taken for granted or treated disrespectfully will kill motivation. Remember, as team leader, your job is to get things done through and with team members-not in spite of them. Motivating team members is a great way to help them use their skills to the fullest and accomplish their personal goals.
