3-D Printing

3-d-printing

Let’s say you want some pieces of furniture for your house. Now instead of going to the store you can go directly to your office input some measurements and print the furniture out! This technology is called 3D printing and it may soon  be affordable enough to have at home!

3D printing basically follows a process called additive manufacturing where layers are added onto each other to successfully build a model.

To print an object using a 3D printer the following steps are carried out:

  • First we develop a file by means of computer aided design(CAD).Basically a CAD file.
  • Next we send this file to the 3D printer.
  • Now the 3d printer will slice this file into hundreds or maybe thousands of layers.
  • It will start printing out these layers.
  • And while printing the layers will be stacked on top of one another  till the 3D object is produced.

Today, 3-D printers are used to create anything from a new toy or automobile parts to developing prototypes for testing. Before 3-D printers came into existence, creating a prototype was time-consuming and expensive, requiring skilled professionals and specific tools. Instead of sending modeling instructions to a production company,  3-D printing has allowed businesses to source prototype production on a regular basis.
