Pre-requisites for installation

Magento is a popular open-source e-commerce platform that allows businesses to create and manage online stores. Before installing Magento, there are several prerequisites that need to be met to ensure a smooth installation process.

  1. Web Server: A web server is required to host Magento. Apache, Nginx, and Microsoft IIS are some of the most commonly used web servers for Magento.
  2. PHP: Magento is built on PHP, so a compatible version of PHP needs to be installed. Magento 2.x requires PHP 7.1.x, 7.2.x, 7.3.x, or 7.4.x.
  3. Database: Magento requires a database to store its data. MySQL or MariaDB are commonly used database management systems for Magento.
  4. SSL Certificate: It is recommended to have an SSL certificate installed on the web server to ensure secure connections between the user and the server.
  5. Memory Requirements: Magento 2.x requires a minimum of 2GB of RAM for optimal performance.
  6. Operating System: Magento is compatible with Linux, Windows, and MacOS operating systems.
  7. PHP Extensions: Several PHP extensions need to be installed and enabled for Magento to function properly. These include extensions such as gd, curl, mbstring, openssl, pdo_mysql, simplexml, and zip.
  8. Composer: Magento 2.x uses the Composer dependency management tool to manage its dependencies. Therefore, Composer needs to be installed and configured before installing Magento.

By ensuring that all of these prerequisites are met before installing Magento, users can avoid any potential issues and ensure a smooth installation process.
