Virtual LAN

A Virtual LAN (VLAN) is a technology that allows network administrators to partition a single physical network into multiple logical networks. Each VLAN behaves as if it is a separate physical network, even though all devices may be physically connected to the same switch or network infrastructure.

VLANs are used to segment networks for a variety of reasons, such as security, manageability, or scalability. For example, different departments within an organization may require different levels of network access, and VLANs can be used to enforce those access policies.

VLANs are configured by assigning ports on a switch to a specific VLAN. Devices connected to those ports are then logically part of that VLAN. VLANs can also be created across multiple switches, allowing devices in different physical locations to be part of the same logical network.
