Looped Link Detection and Enhanced Error Detection

Looped Link Detection and Enhanced Error Detection

Looped link detection and enhanced error detection are two important features of the Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP).

Looped link detection is a feature that detects whether a link has been looped back into itself, which can occur if there is a problem with the physical connectivity of the link. The PPP protocol uses a looped link detection mechanism that sends special packets called Loopback Detection Packets (LDPs) across the link. If the LDPs are returned to the sender, it indicates that the link has been looped back, and PPP will terminate the connection.

Enhanced error detection is another feature of PPP that improves the reliability of the link by providing additional error detection and correction capabilities. PPP uses a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) to detect errors in the data transmitted across the link. If an error is detected, the receiving end will request the sender to retransmit the data. This process helps ensure that the data transmitted across the link is accurate and reliable.

Together, these features help ensure that PPP links are stable and reliable, and can help prevent data loss or corruption due to link problems or errors.
