Keepalive Failure

Keepalive is a mechanism used by network devices to monitor the connection status with the neighboring device. In the context of PPP, keepalive packets are sent periodically between the endpoints to ensure that the link is still active.

A keepalive failure occurs when a PPP endpoint fails to receive keepalive packets from the remote endpoint. This may indicate a problem with the link or a failure of one of the PPP endpoints.

If a keepalive failure occurs, the PPP endpoint may initiate a renegotiation of the PPP link to re-establish the connection. Alternatively, the endpoint may simply bring down the link and wait for the user to initiate a reconnection. Keepalive failures can be caused by a variety of factors, including physical link problems, network congestion, or configuration errors. Troubleshooting a keepalive failure typically involves examining the logs and configuration of the PPP endpoints, as well as checking the physical layer for any problems.
