The World Wide Web

The World Wide Web

The World Wide Web (WWW) is a system of interlinked hypertext documents accessed over the internet. It was invented by British computer scientist Sir Tim Berners-Lee in 1989 while working at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The first web page was launched in 1991, and by the mid-1990s, the WWW had become a popular way of accessing information online.

The WWW is based on the client-server model, in which a user (the client) requests resources such as web pages, images, videos, etc., from a web server. The server responds with the requested content, which is then displayed on the client’s web browser. The most commonly used protocol for transferring web content is the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP).

Web pages are written in HyperText Markup Language (HTML), which is used to define the structure and content of a web page. Other technologies such as Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) and JavaScript are used to define the presentation and behavior of web pages.

The WWW has revolutionized the way people access and share information. It has made it easier to publish and disseminate information on a global scale, and has provided new opportunities for businesses and individuals to communicate and interact with each other. The WWW has also enabled the development of numerous applications, including e-commerce, social networking, online education, and entertainment.
