Sources and Types of Threats

Network security threats can come from various sources, both internal and external to the network. Some common sources of threats include:

Malware: Malware refers to malicious software designed to damage, disrupt, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system. It includes viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, and adware.

Hackers: Hackers are individuals or groups of people who attempt to exploit vulnerabilities in a network or system to gain unauthorized access or steal information.

Insider threats: Insider threats refer to security breaches caused by employees, contractors, or other trusted individuals who have access to sensitive information.

Phishing and social engineering: Phishing is a type of attack that uses email or other electronic communication to trick individuals into providing sensitive information. Social engineering refers to the use of deception to manipulate individuals into divulging confidential information.

Denial of service (DoS) attacks: DoS attacks involve flooding a network or server with traffic, causing it to crash or become unavailable to users.

Man-in-the-middle (MITM) attacks: MITM attacks involve intercepting communication between two parties to eavesdrop, steal information, or modify the communication.

Password attacks: Password attacks involve attempts to guess or crack passwords to gain unauthorized access to a system.

Physical security breaches: Physical security breaches refer to unauthorized access to a network or system through physical means, such as stealing a device or gaining access to a server room.

It is important for organizations to be aware of these threats and take measures to protect their networks and systems against them.
