LAN, MAN and WAN

LAN, MAN and WAN

LAN, MAN, and WAN are three commonly used terms in computer networking. Each of these terms refers to a different type of network that is used to connect devices and share resources between them. A Local Area Network (LAN) is a network that connects devices within a limited area, such as a home, office, or building. LANs typically use Ethernet cables, Wi-Fi, or other wireless technologies to connect devices to each other and to the Internet. LANs are often used to share files, printers, and other resources among devices, as well as to play multiplayer games and stream media.

A Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) is a network that covers a larger area than a LAN but smaller than a WAN. A MAN typically covers a city or a region, and it is often used to connect multiple LANs within the same area. MANs can use a variety of technologies to connect devices, including fiber optic cables, wireless technologies, and leased lines. MANs are commonly used by businesses, government agencies, and universities to connect their various locations and share resources.

A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a network that covers a large geographical area, such as a country or the entire world. WANs are used to connect devices that are located far away from each other and cannot be connected using a LAN or a MAN. WANs use a variety of technologies to connect devices, including leased lines, satellite links, and the Internet. WANs are commonly used by businesses, government agencies, and other organizations to connect their various locations and share resources, as well as to provide Internet access to their employees and customers.
