FTP File Transfer Protocol Secured FTP

FTP File Transfer Protocol Secured FTP

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a standard protocol used to transfer files over the internet or network. It is one of the oldest protocols still in use today, and it works by establishing a client-server connection between two computers, where the client requests files from the server and the server provides them.

FTP is commonly used by web developers and administrators to upload and download files to and from a website’s server. It supports both binary and ASCII transfer modes, making it a versatile protocol that can handle various file types. However, FTP is not secure by default, as it sends login credentials and data in plain text, making it susceptible to interception and hacking attempts.

To address this security concern, secure FTP (SFTP) was developed as an extension of the SSH (Secure Shell) protocol. SFTP uses a secure connection between the client and server, encrypting login credentials and data in transit. SFTP provides an added layer of security, ensuring that files are transferred securely over the internet or network.
