Sales Functions

Sales Functions

Sales Functions- Sales functions are an essential part of all businesses whether small or large, public or private. An organization could make the best product or service but it is useless unless there are buyers to buy these. Hence sales people are appointed by every organization in every industry. The experience and training required for the sales team depend on the kind of industry. Like a sales person in a departmental store does not need a lot of formal training whereas a sales person in a technical firm would require formal training and technical know-how to sell the products or services of his organization. Sales people also need to be good communicators so that they can understand the customers’ needs and explain how their products or services would meet the customers’ needs and satisfy his expectations. They also need to have a good knowledge of the products/services sold by them and how they are different from the similar products/services sold by their competitors.

The goal of Sales is same across all the industries: to provide products or services to customers and earn money for the company which produces these items. The difference is in the product sold, technique of sales, income and title.

The sales person should be an expert in his field and should be a good listener who tailors the sales to fit his customers’ needs. The primary responsibility of a sales person is to establish and maintain a wide-reaching customer base. The act of initiating contact with the potential customer, which is called cold calling, is the most popular way to create such a customer base. Maintaining the client base is also the key to acquiring new customers.
