HR Staffing | Employment Opportunities

Employment opportunities are generally the vacant positions that are available in a business company or an organization. They are published for the purpose of hiring applicants (job seekers) by using mass media namely, newspapers, radio, websites on the internet, etc. Companies announce employment opportunities to invite new applicants for the purpose of filling a vacant position that exist with them. Standard practices in hiring are followed by most employers, namely Equal Opportunity Employment (EOE), Affirmative Action and Staffing Quotas.

3.4.1  Equal Opportunity Employment (EOE)

Equal opportunity employment means an employer agrees not to discriminate against any employee or applicant based on native origins, race, color, religion, sex, disabilities, or age. This employment practice is called ‘facially neutral’ which implies the employees and applicants are treated consistently regardless of their characteristics. There are many laws and legislations for employers to follow EOE processes to ensure an unbiased judgment and understanding of employees and applicants. EOE laws also protect employees from other retaliatory charges like sexual harassment or based on pregnancy.

3.4.2  Affirmative Action

Affirmative action is an effort to eliminate discrimination and improve employment or educational opportunities for members of minority groups or women. Affirmative action programs started during 1970s to improve civil rights and to correct the effects of long-standing discrimination by implementing policies, procedures and programs that aims to bring the underrepresented people to the mainstream economy. Employees or applicants meeting the criteria of race, disability, gender, ex-defense personnel, etc. fall under affirmative action.
