HR Staffing | Designing a sourcing plan

A sourcing plan is the prioritization of which recruiting source to be used for a given position that is able to meet the staffing goals. The plan must take care of efficiency, minimal cost, and ensure the quality of a new hire.

A sourcing plan is designed using the following three steps,

Step 1: Profiling Desirable Employees

Employee profiles help companies to identify desirable talent. Employee profiling is a process by which a firm can identify what the successful current employees like to do and how people like them can be recruited. This is accomplished by use of survey or focus group wherein the company’s top performers are asked about their professional attributes and pursuits. Evidence suggests that employee profiling is extremely effective and help a company to identify top performers from poor performers.

Step 2:Ongoing Recruiting Source Effectiveness: Recruitment strategies are many. One strategy might work well in some circumstances or positions and may not work well in future positions. In order to ensure the recruitment strategy works well all the time it is essential to constantly review the company’s sourcing strategies for both internal and external sources. This review for effectiveness include the metrics,

• Identifying top performing candidates from the pool for the vacancies
• The number of recruits generated from each source
• The quality of recruits, and the range
• The demographic characteristics of recruits from each source and yield ratios
• Conversion rates from applicant to hire for each source
• Job performance by each source
• Promotion rates and data relevant to other staffing goals
