Text Formatting and text blocks

In Adobe PageMaker 7, you can format text and work with text blocks to create visually appealing layouts. Here’s an overview of text formatting and text blocks in PageMaker:

Text Formatting:

  1. Select the text you want to format by clicking and dragging over the desired text or place the cursor within the text block.
  2. Use the formatting options in the Control Palette at the top of the screen to modify the appearance of the selected text. You can change the font, font size, alignment, color, and other attributes using the available controls.
  3. PageMaker also offers additional formatting options in the “Type” menu in the menu bar. You can access options such as leading (line spacing), tracking (letter spacing), and paragraph styles for more advanced formatting.

Text Blocks:

  1. To create a text block, select the Text tool from the toolbox or press the T key.
  2. Click and drag on the page to draw a text frame. Alternatively, you can click once on the page to create a single-line text block.
  3. Once the text block is created, you can start typing or paste text into it.
  4. To resize or reposition the text block, use the Selection tool from the toolbox to click and drag the edges or corners of the text frame.
  5. If the text exceeds the size of the text block, an overflow icon (red plus sign in a box) will appear. You can resize the text block or use the Text tool to create a new text block linked to the existing one for the overflowed text to flow into.

Additional Tips:

  • To apply special formatting to specific text, select the text and use the Character Palette or the Control Palette options for finer control over font styles, size, color, and other attributes.
  • PageMaker supports the use of paragraph styles, which allow you to define and apply consistent formatting to blocks of text throughout your document. You can access paragraph styles from the “Type” menu and the Control Palette.
  • You can import text from external sources, such as word processing documents, by using the “Place” command from the “File” menu. This allows you to import and flow in longer text blocks while maintaining formatting.

Remember that PageMaker 7 is an older software version, and its compatibility with modern operating systems and file formats may be limited. However, it can still be used for basic desktop publishing tasks.
