Links and types (relative and absolute)

In Dreamweaver CS5, a link is a connection between one web page and another, or between a web page and another type of file, such as an image or a PDF document. Links are a crucial part of web design, as they allow users to navigate between pages and access content on a website.

There are two main types of links in Dreamweaver CS5: relative links and absolute links.

Relative links are used to link to content within the same website or domain. They are called relative links because they are based on the relative position of the linked page or file to the current page. For example, if you are linking to a page that is in the same folder as the current page, you can use a relative link to refer to the page by its file name.

Absolute links, on the other hand, are used to link to content outside of the current website or domain. Absolute links include the entire URL of the linked page or file, including the protocol (such as “http://” or “https://”), the domain name, and the path to the file. Absolute links are useful for linking to external websites, social media profiles, or downloadable files.

To create links in Dreamweaver CS5, you can use the Insert panel to insert a link object, and then specify the destination of the link using either a relative or absolute path. Dreamweaver CS5 also provides various options for customizing the appearance and behavior of links, such as adding rollover effects or specifying a target window for the linked page.
