MDM stands for Master Data Management, is sometime misunderstood by organizations as technical issue, which may leads to a project failure. The master data management is closely bound to business intelligence, but its purpose is not limited within Business Intelligence boundaries. The business intelligence tools gain from MDM tools as well as they serve MDM tools.

In actual, MDM is sort of initiative of Data management. The MDM hub fills the gap between management of data and data warehouse (DW). The MDM can be a process, or an infrastructure, or a tool which create and maintain the reference of all the non-transitional entries to build a standard and provide consistency of data. The integrity of data is not preserved by MDM itself, rather it provided with a tool which helps in imparting data integrity.

A customer master data management will take care of all the data related to customer wither in central place so that it can be accessible to every user or in a synchronized manner so that every user have the same copy (or replica) of data.
