Types of Share Market

Types of Share Market

The Treasury market is a debt market, which is different from a share market. However, there are different types of share markets that exist globally. Here are some of the common types of share markets:

Primary market: The primary market is where newly issued securities are offered for the first time to the public through an initial public offering (IPO). In this market, companies raise capital by selling shares to investors.

Secondary market: The secondary market is where securities that are already issued are bought and sold among investors. This market provides liquidity to investors by enabling them to buy and sell securities easily.

Stock exchange: A stock exchange is a marketplace where securities are traded. It is a secondary market where buyers and sellers come together to buy and sell securities, such as shares of stocks.

Over-the-counter (OTC) market: The OTC market is a decentralized market where securities are traded directly between buyers and sellers, without the involvement of a formal exchange. This market is less formal than a stock exchange and often includes trading in smaller or less liquid securities.

Regional exchanges: Regional exchanges are stock exchanges that serve a specific geographic region, such as a state or province, rather than the entire country. These exchanges may offer securities that are unique to the region and may be less liquid than securities traded on national exchanges.

Share market can be fragmented into primary and secondary market.
